Transportation in Venice

There are many enjoyable ways of getting around the Venetian Islands. Which method you choose is all up to how much money you can afford to spend and what you are interested in seeing.

Walking

The best way to really appreciate all Venice has to offer is to walk it's complicated network of bridges and walkways. It is one thing to see the buildings and statues from a boat but on foot is a whole new experience. There are many cathedrals that you can take a walk through, and many gardens and squares to really enjoy. You can also only appreciate the famous Saint Marks Square by visiting it on foot. You can sometimes even catch a concert in st. marks square, not to mention the fine Italian dining available all throughout Venice's streets and squares. Walkings is a great way around once in Venice, but it is a very long walk to get to venice via the bridge.

Water Taxi

A Water Taxi is a great way to get from one place to another within Venice as well as get a scenic ride down the Grand Canal. If you plan your trip well, you can make it work out so that your water taxi ride will take you down the grand canal, that way you won't have to pay extra. A water taxi ride can cost you a wide range of costs depending on your starting and ending location. From Venice Airport to the historic venice are cost anywhere from 95-120 euro. It is quite expensive but well worth the luxury and convenience. You can also get rides costing about the same, from a launch point to save you from having to travel on the bridge.

Gondala Ride

A Gondola ride in Venice won't really get you anywhere, but is for most people a must-do activity in venice.I suggest looking online for tour information to save a lot of money. If you walk up to a Gondalier in venice they will most likely say that a 30min ride cost about 150 euro and that the gondola can fit up to 4 people. Online services offer rides for as low as 19 euro per person for a 2 to 3 hour tour. Regardless, this is well worth the money spent. If you are already in Venice and change your mind and decide to take a gondola ride, you may want to haggle with the gondalier. If they are not busy, they know they aren't making any money standing by their boat, so they will sometimes come down considerably just to earn some money.

Auto on Bridge

To get into venice you could use a water taxi like mentioned above, but for land lovers you could also drive out to venice using a recently added bridge. Be warned though, as it is very crowded, and there is probably a very high charge to park on the other side.
