Murano Glass in Venice

For many years, the most famous product of the Venetian Islands has been Muranos blown glass. Murano is actually a location nearby Venice. Venetian officials had glassmakers move to Murano in fear that a fire would destroy the mostly wooden buildings if their old location. Murano glass is also called Venetian glass because of it's makers location in Venice. For all practical purposes, the terms both refer to the same style of glass originated in Venice. The specialize in making the best possible hand made glass pieces.Than can achieve just about shape, color, or design after many years of experience. The glass pieces are made so that they are as transparent as possible while still having as many tints as they can. They are sometimes decorated in many ways such as having hand painted designs on them.

Today, while visiting Venice, you can find glass makers still in business. You can find a great gallery of expensive hand blown glass pieces. They have everything from wine decanters, to lamps, to figurines. Some special visitors and tour groups can have arrangements made to watch glass makers actually make a piece. This is quite an amazing thing to see how fine and perfect a hand made piece can be made.
